Rachel Domm

Rachel Domm is a passionate artist and illustrator born in the South, now dwelling in Brooklyn, NY where she received her BFA from Pratt Institute. Her body of work runs the gamut from illustrations, prints, books, t-shirts and more– with clients like The New York Times, Budweiser, Time Out and many others. We love the ultra-detailed colored pencil style work shown above. Check her out!

Tra Selhtrow: Sincere Intentions

Although most of the pieces have already sold, I still wanted to point you all toward some of Tra Selhtrow’s new paintings. They are being featured at Seattle’s OKOK Gallery throughout November in Tra’s ‘Sincere Intentions’ exhibit, so you if you’re in the Seattle area, definitely go check them out. Tra works with graphite and oil to produce these impressive works. The two that I featured in the post, ‘Loosen Your Grip,’ and ‘A Moment of Rest,’ especially caught my eye.

I-Manifest Eclipse

We’ve come to expect great t-shirt designs from our friends at I-Manifest, and their newest is living up to expectations. The Eclipse T comes in either black or army colors, and features front and back ‘painterly abstractions of an eclipse’ that make this shirt the canvas for a seriously unique screen printing application. You can buy the Eclipse online or look for it at one of the stores that carries I-Manifest. While you’re visiting the I-Manifest website, also check out their other t-shirt designs. Some of my favorites are the Day After and Identity T’s.

Super-Bastard Toys

Toy9It’s simple, fun, and inexpensive gift time. Our pal Undoboy has parlayed his abundant design talent into these Super-Bastard art characters. There are 16 different toys and 64 different characters, from cowboys, to Mr. T, to Conan the Barbarian. You can buy these Super-Bastard toys online at Karmaloop or in person at one of the retailers listed on the website. But hurry, because Undoboy only manufactured 1000 units of each character. They cost $6 for a single Super-Bastard or you can get the entire set for $95. The holiday season is upon us, and I’m definitely going to stuff some stockings with Super-Bastards.

Ryder Robison: Panther Attack

Ryder Robison was born in Oslo, Norway, currently lives in New York, and is an artist we dig. He spent the greater part of the last decade as the bass player in the Denver-born, major label band VAUX, but he recently left the group to pursue is own talents, design being one of them. He crated his art-skills (and partying) as a Fine Arts major at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His portfolio, PantherAttack contains compelling illustration, painting, and some fairly dark (although quite interesting) photography. My favorite work of his is the basic watercolor two-color instruments, like the ones shown here.

Leif Parsons

Brooklyn-based Leif Parsons is talented, creative, fresh, and has a great sense of humor– and his illustrations and photography reflect his personal attributes. Leif’s creativity led him to create a brand around his own identity– not uncommon these days, but Leif’s creative and humorous and self-reflective identity page is definitely worth a gaze. Leif has been around for a while, proving his work up, and we think the best is yet to come for thoughtful young Parsons.

Jens Sjobergh: Airgroom

We really like Jens Sjobergh’s artwork. He is from Sweden (currently living in Los Angeles), and definitely represents with pieces like this (entitled ‘Jens Swede Love’). Jens’ luminescent illustrations appear to be from the cosmos, somehow mixing reality — with the heavens — with 21 year old emotion. Jens is a member of crew 10 at Sweden’s top interactive school Hyper Island, and works for Exopolis in L.A. Although Jens lacks classical art education, he has done a great job of learning by doing–in the streets, and in front of a computer monitor.

Ingi Erlingsson

We know Iceland for two things: Pretty girls and Bjork. Thanks to our friends over at Flavorpill we can now add a third to our knowledge of all things Icelandic– the beautiful artwork and illustration of Ingi Erlingsson. Ingi’s work is ethereal, painfully detailed and we think this ’spring’ piece is totally uplifting. He now works in Southsea, UK at iLoveDust, a design company by day– and by night he is a freelance illustrator.

Nik Ainley: Shiny Binary

UK Based graphic designer Nik Ainley has an interesting philosophy about digital media: He wont stop trying to further his expertise until he has mastered all the tools he needs to fully realize his designs. He taught himself Photoshop in his spare time while gaining a degree in physics at Imperial College London. His work is both imaginative and refreshing– check him out.

Alliance Dual Show

A regular staple here at JoshSpear.com, our fried Jason Thielke has really been working out his artistic muscle as of late. This month he’s joined forces with Scot Lefavor for the “Alliance” Dual Show. The show kicked off September 1 at the Art and Soul Gallery and features new works by both Scot and Jason. “Jason’s street influenced portraits and landscapes are portrayed in a unique style the he calls ‘a reversal of traditional graffiti’, while Scot’s narrative paintings are based on advertising styles of the 1950’s and early 60’s infused with contemporary commentary.” This complementary duo offers a fresh look at the local art scene and is sure not to disappoint. If your in Boulder between the 1st and 30th of September stop by the gallery, 1615 Pearl St and feast your eyes!
