When Roland Dickey Jr joined Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant, Inc, the restaurant only had a few locations. However, he was set to change this because he has always been a very productive individual. He started by implementing technology usage within the business and growing Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant, Inc. Overtime; his strategies became successful. When he was promoted to the CEO of Dickeys Capital Group, the restaurant has already grown to 400 locations. Roland Dickey Jr also gave the restaurant an international presence because Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant now had some international locations. Forbes Magazine has taken note of the efforts of Roland, leading to the recognition of the restaurant as one with the “Best Franchise Deal.”
The history of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant began in 1941. Roland Dickey Jr’s grandfather Travis Dickey was a war veteran. After the war ended, he ventured into the restaurant business to give his community a place to relax and enjoy a good barbecue. The first menu ever to be used at the company was so simple. It mainly contained beef brisket, potato chips, sodas, beer, and other few accompaniments. The restaurant was the primary source of income for the family, as Travis managed it alongside his wife, Ollie. Later on, after the death of Travis Dickey, Roland Dickey Sr and his brother continued to manage the family business. The two managers started slowly growing the barbecue restaurant leading to a franchise location being opened in 1994. Their focus on expansion later gave the restaurant presence in Colorado and Denver as well.
Roland Dickey Jr was aware of the restaurant business, but when he graduated from Southern Methodist University, the first place he worked in was not in the restaurant business. He chose to work for other companies before coming into the business. In a short duration, he became the CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Inc in 2006 and afterward CEO of Dickey Capital Group.
